Recognizing life flowing
The Japanese concept of Ma has been described as a pause in time, an interval or emptiness in space. It is a moment where absence doesn’t imply a lack, but an opportunity for new understanding.
Shot in the sleepless dark in Tokyo, the images follow the city’s outlines in low light, focusing on small shifts of shadow, light, and time passing unnoticed.
There is no story here. It is all about the pause stretched thin. A waiting. In this series, light is not a guide, but a trace of something passing through. The images don’t reveal, they suggest. What’s visible is only part of the story. What matters is what hovers just beyond it: the silence, the hesitation, the breath held in.
It suggests that within the darkness, there is room for reflection, growth, and eventual transformation. It is the moment before a change, the breath before action.
